Our Parish

St. Gregory the Theologian Orthodox Church in Austin, TX is a vibrant and diverse church, with parishioners of all ages and backgrounds, hailing from Central Texas, other parts of the United States, and around the world. We share in the life and traditions of our Orthodox faith.

Originally established as the North Campus of St. Elias Orthodox Church in response to the growing presence of Orthodoxy in the region, the community continued to grow and flourish, ultimately leading to the establishment of St. Gregory the Theologian Orthodox Christian Church as a new parish in 2026 under the leadership of Very Rev. Fr. David Barr. St. Gregory is a parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, part of the ancient Church of Antioch and the worldwide Orthodox Christian Church. The Antiochian Orthodox Church has historic roots in the Middle East and represents some of the oldest Christian communities in the world. According to the New Testament, it was in the Syrian city of Antioch that the disciples of Jesus were first called Christians (Acts 11:26).

Orthodoxy is the traditional Christian faith practiced throughout the Middle East, Eastern Europe, the Slavic world, the Balkans, Africa, and Central Asia. Today, the Orthodox Church continues to welcome people from every background and nation who are seeking to encounter Christ and discover the fullness of the Christian faith preserved and lived by the Church throughout the centuries.

St. Gregory the Theologian seeks to carry this ancient faith forward in the heart of its growing community, remaining rooted in the life, worship, and teachings of the Orthodox Church while welcoming all who desire to know and follow Christ.
