The mission statement of St. Gregory, a Catholic, co-educational high school, defines the task it has chosen to accomplish: "to provide students of diverse academic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds a secure environment in which they can experience quality education that equips them with the skills needed to become contributing members of society, and to accomplish this in an atmosphere that encourages respect and fosters human values." St. Gregory High School opened in 1937 as the first co-ed Catholic high school in the Archdiocese. It has always been one of Chicago’s smaller Catholic high schools. It is a school where “faith based education”, “mission”, “family” , “inclusive”, “respect” and “ individual attention” have always been key values that best describe the attitude and environment a student, parent or parishioner will find within its halls and classrooms.
